Kinda a no-brainer right! Notably, though a 2009 research study done on rodents showed that when under constant stress the rodents relied heavily on automatic decisions. – Or habit action – which ultimately relates to our own behavior in that – WE TEND TO MAKE HABITUAL DECISIONS (even when the habit is BAD for us) DURING TIMES OF STRESS.
TO CREATE CHANGE, WE MUST CHANGE. When it comes to the plasticity of our brain matter and the electrons that fire in there – we are changing constantly – how cool is it that we can CONTROL the CHANGE to ACHIEVE our goals, objectives, and even CURATE our DEEPEST DESIRES. Obviously, doing the same things, the same way will NOT create change! The brain loves familiarity and will try to automate (autobrain like autopilot) as many functions as you perform in a day – THAT INCLUDES YOUR RESPONSE TO STRESS, TO PAIN & TO CHRONIC ILLNESS (note the word ‘chronic’)
Battling chronic pain is challenging on a daily basis for most people, and just by the simple nature of the beast, it can create a lot of stress. Natural therapies like Cannabis, NLP, and Hypnosis can reduce the symptoms and help us cope with a flare-up as well as manage the day-to-day “chronically influencing conditions”. Your doctor is likely to discuss with you, or prescribe to you some form of beta-blocker or pain inhibitor, and although this may seem like an “ok” solution – the negative side-effects, long and short term are NOT WORTH the relief they provide (yes, that is my opinion – based on my personal experience!). The pharmaceuticals are designed to “dull” your senses and prevent the brain’s pain receptors from responding to the pain stimulus.

- Firstly: Topicals like a cannabis infused coconut oil will help ease the tired and achey muscles, tendons, and joints. It can be applied ofen and liberally. There is absolutely no “high” associated with this application – just the joy you get from releif! As an added bonus, it’s great for your skin too!
- Secondly: Ingestion or eating infused edibles (micro-dosed) through out the day as required (2-3x per day) will help to keep the aches and pains at bay. Some people are concerned about “being high” all day, notably – finding the right dose for you for maintenance of your condition should be approached systematically – keeping a journal will go a long way in determining what works for you, when. - Third: Inhalation by vape or combustion will produce effects within seconds of inhalation and is a fabulous tool for alleviating SHARP or PIERCING or SPASTIC pains that come and go or threaten to “hang out” – A couple of puffs on a great strain , can really settle down the pain.
Additionally enjoying a puff or two by vape or combustion can be a very effective tool for calming the mind and body in preperation for a hypnosis treatement or meditation session.
Part of the GREEN & CLEAN STRATEGY I employ includes NLP – Short for Neural Linguistic Programming – which sounds fancy, or maybe even a little scary, but all it really is is “Talking to our brains (or selves) in a very specific way to achieve the desired change in response to …….. whatever…. for the purposes of this article – to change our brains response to pain. Notably, our response to pain determines its impact on our abilities mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.
Basically how it works is to identify the PROGRAM that your brain currently runs in response to pain. For example:
- MENTALLY your brain signals mass system alarms, red flags go up in all systems creating type of hysteria in sensory overload (your heart beats faster)
- PHYSICALLY your body braces for the pain and the muscles stiffen, and chances are your either holding your breath or your breathing becomes shallow, as a response to the desire for oxygen your adrenal glands get excited and the brain begins to pump out hormones preparing it to “fight, take flight, freeze, or appease” AND in a matter of seconds or minutes your
- SPIRIT becomes depleted and emotional strengths are challenged.
At last, you are left MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY & SPIRITUALLY EXHAUSTED, your strengths depleted and the get up and go in you is gone!
NLP techniques afford us the tools to CHANGE THIS PROGRAM by cutting into any part of it and replace the coding with action/responses that work in our favor. For example:
- MENTALLY recognizing the pain alert and reduce it to a “DULL” noise, or vibration – as you mentally deduce the INTENSITY of the pain,
- PHYSICALLY breathing deep, intentional, focused inhales and slowly exhaling 3 or 4 times to promote oxygenation of the system. Realizing that the slow infusion of oxygen will promote healing quickly
- SPIRITUALLY your strength increases as you realize your power to control and manage using your brain and body in a concerted effort –
ULTIMATELY, renewing your strength and increasing your resilience.
I use HYPNOSIS to help “install new programs” – the subconscious learns so much quicker and easier than the “logic conscious” – that said programs installed through hypnosis treatment run automatically as though on “autopilot” – I call it “auto brain”.
MORE TO THAT… Hypnosis is an effective tool for creating change. There are many wonderful ways to help manage pain. The reason is simple; it changes your awareness and teaches a person how to overcome the pain by increasing the level of comfort that that feels. It is a natural process that people enter into daily as we cycle from levels of high alert/awareness to the slower periods of the day and right into a deep sleep. Hypnosis is a form of deep relaxation coupled with extreme focus and we know that anything that can be thought of can become a reality. Everything that exists comes first from our thoughts.
That said, PAIN REGISTERS IN THE BRAIN FIRST and the brain creates thoughts about the pain, and physiologically we respond (typically in a patterned way or behavior) by the response. CREATING A PAIN RESPONSE that affords our bodies comfort and our minds a quiet calm IS THE ULTIMATE POWER of HYPNOTHERAPY.
