Hey everyone! I recently had the most incredible experience as a Pro Judge for The Karma Cup at OPPHeadyQuarters, (@otherpeoplespot). The Karma Cup Pro Judge Experience
First Impressions:
OPPHeadyQuarters offers a cozy, vibrant setting, and the tantalizing aroma of top-tier cannabis surrounded us. I met Joanne, my sesh buddy who was equally enthusiastic as we embarked on our task to sample and judge seven 1g prerolls. Notably, the samples were conveniently divided into x2 .5g so we each could do our own assessment. The Karma Cup (thekarmacup.com) is a prestigious blind-judge competition, meaning we had no information about the strain, grower, or licensed producer behind each entry. Our mission was to evaluate them purely on their smell, taste, burn, color, and overall quality.
The Experience
Our session began with preroll #6. It had a harsh, citrusy inhale and an earthy exhale, with ash that wasn’t super clean. Despite being my least favorite, it still produced a heady high that made Joanne and me quite chatty. Preroll #4 followed, impressing us with its cheesy aroma and citrusy, woodsy flavor, further enhancing our euphoria.
Preroll #7 was a real delight, both in taste and smell, making us giggly and sociable. After a quick snack break featuring a slice of pizza and sips of Sweet Justice, a cannabis-infused beverage, we continued our journey.
Next, we tried preroll #2, which was super citrusy with subtle spicy notes. Its great inhale/exhale and clean ash sent me into a spacey, introspective state. Preroll #3 was a WOW moment – sweet and stinky with a zippy taste, it embodied everything you’d expect from competition-level weed.
My favorite, preroll #1, had a tangerine citrus smell that translated perfectly to the taste, with no choke, even after five previous joints. I’m eagerly awaiting to find out which strain and grower produced this fantastic preroll. Lastly, preroll #5, with notes that resembled chicken scratches, was peppery, tasty, and had a fantastic smell, leaving me happy and satisfied.
All the preroll entries this year were exceptional, showcasing the incredible diversity and quality in today’s cannabis market. Huge thanks to all the finalist brands and a special shout-out to Sarah and The Karma Cup Crew for organizing this fantastic event.
